Extracurricular Soundscape, Febuary 2024
54  mins

A composition for the performance show 'Extracurricular’ at the Letherby Gallery, King Cross lead by Marc Hulson and Owen Parry in collaboration with students From CSM and the Art Academy of Latvia.

The composition is 54 mins and made up of ambient field recordings and synth sounds split into 5-minute segments and played on a loop to accompany the 4 hours of Extracurricular performances. My favourite section included the sounds of a photocopier and a swelling of synth noise that highlights the feeling of being disconnected in a mundane daily task and the mechanical hypnotic rhythm of the photocopier, it culminates into a mass of noise and then a sudden drop back into reality  serving as the end of the composition. it starts from the 9:00 minute mark till the end in the shortened version below.

Shortened version, 12:42

Intro/change segment -1:00- Street and forest field recordings -2:47- Eerie synth segment with windchimes and forest - 6:18- Forest, library and photocopier field recordings -8:00- Change segment -9:00- Photocopier and synth swell -12:20- photocopier finishes job sudden end.
